During a postnatal check, the new mother undergoes a routine gynecological exam including a pelvic exam, , breast exam, and blood pressure/weight check. Additionally, incision healing (for C-sections) and uterus size are assessed to ensure proper recovery.

Hormones typically balance within three to six months after childbirth. If breastfeeding, hormone levels can fluctuate during weaning, potentially causing mood changes like sadness, anxiety, or irritability due to drops in prolactin and oxytocin.

At least  postnatal visits are recommended for all mothers and newborns.

It’s essential to consult with your healthcare provider before starting any postpartum exercise routine. Generally, light activities like walking can be resumed shortly after childbirth, but more strenuous exercises should be postponed until your body has had time to heal, typically around six weeks postpartum.

It’s common for new mothers to experience a range of emotions after childbirth, including mood swings, sadness, and anxiety, known as postpartum blues. However, if these feelings persist or worsen, it could be a sign of postpartum depression, which requires professional intervention. Don’t hesitate to seek support from your healthcare provider if you’re struggling emotionally after childbirth.
